Kinross increases Kupol ownership to 100%
On April 4, 2011, Kinross announced that it
had increased its ownership in the Kupol mine from 75% to
100%. This transaction consolidated Kinross' ownership in a
world-class mine, located in a key region, with significant
production, low costs and strong cash flow.
Welcoming our new Chief Financial Officer
In April, Kinross welcomed Paul Barry as its new Executive
Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Barry succeeds Thom
Boehlert, whose departure was announced earlier in the year.
Mr. Barry joins Kinross following a distinguished career in the
United States, where from 2009 to 2011, he was an independent
consultant in Washington, D.C. From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Barry was
Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Pepco
Holdings, Inc., and from 2002 to 2007 he held several positions at
Duke Energy Corporation, including Senior Vice-President and Chief
Development Officer.
Kinross announces $2.5M to build new medical emergency centre in Mauritania
On March 30th, Kinross announced that it was committing
US$2.5 million to build and help equip a new Medical Emergency
Center in Mauritania.
The new emergency centre will provide much-needed additional health
care infrastructure and will serve not only the people of
Nouakchott, a city of approximately one million inhabitants, but
also people from other parts of the country who largely depend on
Nouakchott as a centre for health care services and resources.
Currently, Nouakchott has only limited emergency treatment
facilities, which are required to handle all emergency medical
cases in the country.

Kinross named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index
On September 8, Kinross was named to the Dow Jones
Sustainability World Index for the first time and to the Dow
Jones Sustainability North America Index for the second consecutive
year.
For the third year in a row, Kinross was named one of "Canada's
Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations" by Maclean's
magazine and for the second year in a row, recognized as one
of the "Best 50 Corporate Citizens of Canada" by Corporate
Knights magazine.
